Free Textbooks

The rising cost of textbooks is an issue that all institutions of higher learning try to address. At UIW, we know it is difficult for some students to afford a textbook on top of their tuition payments. Brainpower Online is the Extended Academic Programs innovative initiative to provide  free  textbooks for all undergraduate students with no additional fees. Many of the text books are in electronic format, making them accessible and portable, using your laptop or eBook reading device.  When you enroll for an undergraduate class in the ADCaP or UIW Online programs, we will include the added benefit of textbooks. This means no out-of-pocket expenses for books*. The free textbook program applies only to students in the undergraduate programs in ADCaP and UIW Online.

After your registration is approved by your academic counselor (usually within 24 hours), and entered into our student system, each student is sent an email through their Cardinal Mail account explaining they can now get their free textbook.

To get your books:

Go to and follow the directions to log into the portal. For assistance, check out the FAQ link in the ADCaP portal for tutorials on requesting your book and using the Bookshelf to read your book.

What if my course does not have an e-book?

Some courses do not yet have e-books, so the book will be made available at the UIW Bookstore. You must still follow the directions above and log into the portal to request the voucher for the course.

If a student wants to visit the UIW bookstore to request their free book, they must show the voucher.

The free book program is subject to all copyright laws. The distribution of e-books without authorization will result in severe disciplinary actions. Click here to see a brief explanation of these laws.

The free textbook program applies only to students in the undergraduate programs in ADCaP and UIW Online.
